Thanks for signing up to be a part of One Book, One Church. We are so happy you and your community will be joining the conversation! One Book, One Church is essentially an inter-church book club that will read Rescuing Jesus with an eye toward developing concrete strategies for practicing radical inclusion and pursuing authentic social justice.
In the coming weeks you will receive an ambassador’s “starter kit” which will include invitations to exciting upcoming events, a discussion guide and additional resources.
In the meantime, here are a few recommendations to make your experience with One Book, One Church successful.
1. Talk to you church leaders and people in your faith community about making this a church-wide event. Begin these conversations today! Ideas include:
- Start a summer small group that reads the book together and hosts weekly discussions.
- Create a list of people (like right now, write down those names!) you want to invite to join you in this endeavor and then invite them.
- Plan to host viewing parties of One Book, One Church's online streaming events in May-August. (Schedule forthcoming soon.)
2. Like our Facebook page. Join the growing online community of fellow One Book One Church book clubbers.
3. Buy a copy of the book and start reading. It is never too early to begin processing the stories and information. But be careful. You won’t be able to put the book down! You can purchase the book at an independent book seller in your area, Amazon or find more places here.
4. Use the hashtag #RescuingJesus to tell others about your reading experience/reflections and to invite them to join the One Book, One Church party. Social media is a free and easy way to advocate for the issues we'll be discussing. Use your online presence to make a difference.
5. If you're a blogger, consider blogging your way through the book and hosting your own One Book, One Church book club online.
Our primary goal is to get communities to consider, pray about and participate in important justice issues impacting “the least of these.” Rescuing Jesus provides a starting point for this conversation, with intimate stories, history, studies and expert analysis that your community can discuss.
We are so excited you'll be joining us this summer. We can't wait to see what we can do together. Welcome to a community of believers exploring God’s vision for the world and a movement of change.
Looking forward to partnering with you, friend. More to come!
Warmly,
Debbie and Erin
